Delta Sigma Theta. Line Members. Howard University, 2006. photo. 4 x 6 in. 1200 x 1800 pixels.
One main goal of Delta Sigma Theta is to create a sisterhood among women. For women to learn from, love, and support each other. Once a woman is selected to participate in the pledging process, she is grouped together with other "prospects" or potential members. This group of hopefuls, are bonded together for the next sixteen weeks or until the pledging process is complete.
The photo to the right displays the women who have pledged together. They are identified as “line sisters” due to them always being presented in a line and the sisterly bond created.. Once the line is created, a name is given that is meaningful to the line's pledging process and the individuals a part of it. The pledging process is a strenuous and humbling experience. These women encourage each other through the duration of pledging and together achieve the goal in becoming a part of the organization.
